What is the real empty weight and useful
load?(A4)?
Actual empty weight of the A4 is 1112kg empty
The documentation gives; Weight: empty 1130kg (2491lb) and MTOW 1850kg (4079lb) for the
A4,Q5,Q6 model
useful load 1588lb; Fuel 220L /3.8=58gal=348lb, Pilot 170lb, 1070lb is
"payload"
How is the cabin arranged (seating, baggage) ?
In the front: Pilot seat fixed (adjustable on the ground) and co-pilot seat fixed, The
back-rest of this seat swivels and gives the Co access to the cabin during flight. In the
back: Passenger seat-bench for two facing forward with lots of leg room. The very large
baggage space is located behind the seat-bench but only accessible from the cabin (no
separate door).
What is the fuel capacity ?
Two wing tanks with 110 liter each, some aircraft have two more wing tanks with 76 liter
each. (1gal=3.8 liter)
What about the power-setting/speed/fuel consumption?
Speeds: cruising between 90 -115kt with a fuel burn of 13-16gal/h
Cross country flying is best with 100kt and calculating 14 gal/h
Can you give the stall speed?
NO! Only the minimum flying speeds (as indicated):
with nominal power and flaps45° = 27kt; idling and flaps45° = 42kt
with nominal power and flaps35° = 30kt; idling and flaps30° = 43kt
these minimum speeds are established above actual stall
(Dornier had some trouble to get the FAA T.C. , a stall warning device was missing.
Finally a Q5 was modified then called Q6)
How does the Do perform on landing and take off (distances)?
It depends extremely on the weight (40% useful load) and on the procedure used;
roll for take off and landing are from 80-150m
distances (over 15m/50ft obstacle) are double.
And the cross wind?
Landings or better landing rolls in cross wind are a challenge!
The tail-wheel is free turning and not connected with the pedals. The fin and rudder was
designed for slow flight-speeds and together with the body the lateral surface is very
large. (one solution; land into the wind)
Will the aircraft handle successfully rough surfaces and off field operation?
That's what the aircraft was designed for. (the German HEER (Army) had more than 400
Dos, later they were only substituted by helicopters); Olio-travel distance is
0.355m, more than 1ft.
