King Air C90 report
#5 in Phnom Penh
The rest of the time
my Family and I spent in Phnom Penh.
This is an interesting city with lots of extremes. Traffic is crazy and
genius in the same time. They have what pilots dream off (free flight
concept) but here it is on the ground, the free drive concept. Everybody
goes where and how he likes, surprisingly with very little accidents.

One attraction is the
low priced shopping. Brand clothing for a few bucks, not the fake but real
ones. There are several town markets, the cheapest is the so called
Russian market but it is very crowded and hot. I prefer the New market in
the center of Phnom Penh.

What is true for the
clothing is different for the watches and sunglasses. Copied Ray-Ban's and
Breitling's for 10 to 20$ all over the place.

The other great thing
are the thousands of restaurants. Khmer food is similar to Thai or
Vietnamese dishes at least at the first look for foreigners. Other common
restaurants are Chinese and French. The only fast food chain is local and
called Lucky Burger. You will not find Burger King or McDonald. This is
still an adventure country. Go there while it last.
But as everywhere it
is good to know some locals that show you around. For a good diner you
have to select first what you want. Fish, snake, turtle or frog for
example. This is a restaurant
not an Aquarium shop.

Live fish purchased
by the kg. This fish (5kg) was 40$ prepared. This is pure luxury here in
Cambodia as the average monthly income is 60$ (2005)

But on the market we
found other specialties less costly.

The last
part of the job was pilot
training. And here we are waiting for the fuel truck. A vehicle ready for
any Museum.
